As the newly formed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in West Bengal celebrated the eternal Bengali poet and novelist Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 188th birth anniversary for the first time, the party’s Jorasanko MLA Vijay Ojha’s issued a sharp reminder from last year when Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who was then the Leader of Opposition, was prevented from visiting the literary genius’ residence by Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons.

“When Suvendu Adhikari visited College Street last year, the local TMC councillor had the road dug up just to prevent him from reaching. The then Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, even bled that day while trying to pay tribute to Bankim Chandra,” Ojha said speaking exclusively to The Statesman.
