In view of the approaching Monsoon, Kolkata Municipality has banned all sorts of digging on the roads for a period of three and a half months.

According to the Alipore Meteorological Department forecast, monsoon is expected to hit South Bengal Thursday i.e 16thJune.

The Kolkata Municipality has issued a circular stating that from 15th of this month to 30th of October no digging will be allowed on any road or sidewalk in the city of Kolkata.

The municipality has banned any kind of digging till the monsoon period of around four months.

Due to digging on the roads during the rainy season, water accumulates on the same road leading to trouble to the commuters.

A notification has been issued on behalf of Kolkata Municipality stating that no organization will be able to dig the road in any way except in case of urgent need. Even in case of emergency, permission has to be obtained from the Municipality in advance for digging roads.

The city commissioner has issued a guideline to this effect.
