Harsh Malhotra’s experience and organisational skills will strengthen Delhi BJP: CM

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday visited the Delhi BJP office and met Union Minister Harsh Malhotra, conveying her best wishes to him on being appointed the new president of the Delhi BJP unit.

CM Gupta said that Malhotra’s long-standing dedication to the organisation, his grassroots working style, and his close association with party workers have always been inspiring.

She said that due to his active role in the organisation over a long period, Malhotra possesses a deep understanding of both party workers and the ideology of the BJP, which will certainly benefit the Delhi BJP organisation.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that under Malhotra’s leadership, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India and a developed Delhi would gain fresh momentum and strength.

She said that under the guidance of the Prime Minister and the leadership of BJP national president Nitin Nabin, the organisation has expanded and established new dimensions of public service.

“At such a time, the leadership of an experienced and organisation-oriented leader like Harsh Malhotra will provide fresh energy and greater strength to the Delhi BJP,” she added.

Gupta further said that Malhotra’s appointment has created an atmosphere of enthusiasm and positive energy among party workers.

She noted that, as a senior and experienced leader, he has always worked with the spirit of placing the organisation above all else, and this very work ethic will play an important role in taking the organisation to new heights.

Speaking on the occasion, Malhotra said, “I believe that responsibilities in the BJP are like a 400-metre relay race. Today, Virendra Sachdeva has handed over to me the baton of responsibility, and I resolve that, with the support of thousands of party workers in Delhi and under the guidance of the leadership, I will make every possible effort to strengthen the BJP in Delhi and accelerate the work of the Delhi Government.”

Malhotra was born to parents who were both teachers. His father was a government school principal, while his mother taught in a private school.

He pursued Botany Honours and an LLB degree from Delhi University. His wife is a homemaker who supported their elder daughter in becoming a doctor, while their younger daughter completed her MBA.

He has been associated with the RSS and ABVP since childhood and entered active BJP politics in 1991 through the Naveen Shahdara district unit.

Beginning his political career in the Yuva Morcha and Mandal units, Malhotra received his first major organisational responsibility in 2004 when he was appointed District Organisational Secretary for Naveen Shahdara district.

From 2007 to 2010, he served as president of the Naveen Shahdara district unit. During 2012–17, he was a member of the erstwhile East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), where he served as Chairman of the Education Committee from 2012 to 2015 and later as Mayor of EDMC in 2015–16.

He also worked in the party’s National Training Wing for nine years between 2011 and 2020. From 2020 to 2024, Malhotra served as General Secretary of the Delhi BJP. In 2024, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from East Delhi and won by a massive margin of nearly 94,000 votes.
