Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Friday directed the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to launch a comprehensive training programme for its drivers and conductors, focusing on road safety, public conduct, and safe driving. The move aims to improve the image of DTC staff and enhance the overall commuter experience in the city.

Singh said the programme is intended to raise awareness and improve ethical behaviour and driving practices among DTC personnel. “This measure will ensure a safer and more pleasant travel experience for passengers,” he said. The minister added that trained DTC staff will interact with commuters more respectfully and professionally, setting a new benchmark for public transport services.

The minister also directed that strict departmental action be taken against drivers found violating traffic or operational norms. “If DTC drivers fail to stop at designated bus stops, engage in overspeeding or rash driving, do not stay within their lanes, operate buses with open doors, jump red lights, or violate zebra crossings, strict departmental action will be taken,” he said.

Singh added that CCTV cameras installed in DTC buses will be used to monitor both the actions and behaviour of drivers and conductors, ensuring greater accountability.

Addressing public complaints about misbehaviour, failure to stop at designated bus stops, and unsafe driving practices — such as using mobile phones while driving and operating buses with doors open — the minister said that the training programme is aimed at tackling these issues and improving overall service standards.
