Fresh ED summons to Kejriwal in Delhi liquor policy case

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been summoned by the Directorate of Enforcement for the eighth time in connection with the (now scrapped) Delhi liquor policy case for questioning, sources said.

He had skipped the seventh summons issued by the agency on Monday.

In the fresh summons, the AAP chief has been asked to appear before the agency on March 4, for questioning into the money laundering probe linked to the excise policy case.

On Monday, he had said that the federal agency had gone to court over the matter and now must wait for its decision in this connection.

Kejriwal has alleged that all this is being done to mount pressure on him and AAP to quit from the INDIA bloc, and he further asserted that the alliance would continue.

Delhi CM also said that he will go ahead as per the court in this matter.

He has also claimed that his party leaders have received informal messages asking them to break away from the INDIA alliance.

On February 17, Kejriwal had virtually appeared before a Delhi court over a complaint by the ED with regard to the non- compliance of its summons.

He was granted a day’s exemption by the honorable court from appearance in person, and the next date of hearing in the matter is on March 16.

The central agency filed the complaint in court when Kejriwal skipped its fifth summons issued in connection with the liquor policy case.

Earlier, Kejriwal had also written to the agency, asking to withdraw the summons, while he had termed the notices ”illegal.”

So far, the anti- money laundering agency has issued eight summons to the AAP convener, since November 2023, when the first summons was issued to him.

Earlier too when he had skipped the summons for the fourth time, CM alleged that the agency is summoning him at the behest of the BJP, not for any specific investigation or for recording any statement, but to arrest him to prevent him from discharging his constitutional and statutory duties and from campaigning in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

He had earlier said that the notices sent by the ED were illegal and unsustainable in law, while the party has been saying that it will go as per the law in this matter.
