Delhi govt must issue ‘zero bills’ to consumers with disputed water bills: Sachdeva

Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva

Reacting to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s statement on the water bill issue on Sunday, the Delhi BJP unit hit out at the Delhi government and said it should fulfil the administrative process and issue zero bills to all the consumers with disputed bills.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said that since the Delhi government claims to provide free water to lakhs of consumers, utilising up to 21,000 liters of water per month, it should issue zero bills to all those residential consumers who have been issued faulty and inflated bills, in line with its existing scheme.

Mocking Kejriwal for his statement that the Delhi government will promptly settle bills if Delhiites give seven Lok Sabha seats to the INDIA bloc, the Delhi BJP chief said that it is nothing more than a joke. He said that the responsibility to settle bills lies with the Delhi government, where Kejriwal already holds power. It’s an irony that the Kejriwal administration has done little to help the people of the city, he said.

Sachdeva further alleged that the Delhi CM is misleading people and has raised the water bill settlement issue in a bid to divert public attention from his government’s corruption sagas.

The BJP leader said that since the Delhi CM is surrounded by allegations of corruption, and people are raising questions about the same, he has resorted to evoking the issue of excessive water bills and ended up misusing the extended budget session of the Delhi assembly.

Sachdeva affirmed that the BJP has no apprehensions regarding the settlement of excessive water bills sent to consumers by the Delhi government. Rather, he claimed that the BJP is clear in its stand and that the problem has been caused because of the installation of wrong air flow meters by the DJB.

“It would be better if the Delhi Jal Board issues zero bills to all disputed residential consumers as part of its one-time settlement scheme,” Sachdeva said.
