Tightening its noose on the traffic rules violators to ensure road safety, the Delhi Traffic Police conducted a special drive against drunk driving, overloaded vehicles and those driving with defective registration plates.

The traffic police in total fined 428 violators in the two-hour drive on Wednesday night, a Traffic Police official said.

According to the official, the special drive was conducted at 22 locations across the Eastern, Central and Northern Ranges involving over 250 traffic police personnel along with local police station staff.

The intensive checking was conducted jointly by traffic and local police by placing barricades while senior police officials including the DCPs, ACPs and the Traffic Inspectors of the areas concerned continuously monitored the drive.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police Traffic Dinesh Kumar Gupta, the main focus of the special drive was drunken driving, overloading vehicles and defective number plates.

Notably, the above mentioned aspects are very crucial when it comes to maintaining and ensuring road safety.

The police said that such drives will be continued in future in a bid to ensure a safe environment in the national capital.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the Traffic Police have intensified its actions against the incidents of red light jumping as a response to growing concerns regarding road safety and adherence to traffic regulations.

Red light jumping, which the police termed as a reckless behavior on the road, also leads to fatal accidents and disruptions in traffic flow, the police added.

As per traffic police, there will be increased surveillance on the crucial traffic intersections to monitor and identify instances of red light jumping.

Additional personnel have also been deployed at the strategic locations across the city in a bid to ensure swift response and enforcement.

The traffic police is also exploring technological interventions and have installed a 3D radar- based Red Light Violation Detection System(RLVDS) at major roads and junctions, which detects vehicles violating traffic rules at the signals and sends the data to the control room for further action.

The traffic police also said that on the basis of notices issued for the red light violations for the year 2024 so far, the violations were higher in the southern part of Delhi.

The maximum number of violations have been found in several areas including Nauroji Nagar, Naraina, Moolchand, Bhikaji Cama Place, Moti Bagh, Lajpat Nagar and Andrews Ganj, the traffic police added.
