Delhi Police registers case in alleged objectionable act at JNU

The Delhi Police has filed an FIR in connection with an objectionable act allegedly done by an unidentified person in front of a female student on the campus of Jawaharlal University (JNU) here on Thursday.

The case was registered following a complaint by the varsity administration in writing, where it was alleged that an unidentified person indulged in act of ‘public nudity’ on the campus.

“It has come to the notice of the JNU security staff that an unidentified individual was found to be indulging in a public nudity act. We strongly condemn this act. The security staff want to assure all the stakeholders on the campus that they have zero tolerance towards any such offensive act,” a notice issued by the university administration said.

According to a police official, a case has been lodged under Sections 294 (obscene acts or words in public) and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The police are in contact with the JNU authorities in view of investigation and teams have been constituted to nab the person and solve the case.

Earlier, the varsity had issued an advisory asking students to remain vigilant following the incident.

The alleged incident had taken place near the bus stop adjacent to JNU’s administration block.
