The Delhi Police on Friday dismantled a major counterfeit smoking paper operation in Okhla Industrial Area, seizing fake products and packaging worth over Rs 1 crore, an official said.
According to a senior officer, the action followed a complaint filed by a private company, which claimed that counterfeit cartons, labels, and packaging of its smoking paper products were being produced and distributed across the Delhi-NCR region.

In a statement, the police stated that the fake products that closely resemble the original brand were reportedly resulting in losses to the company and confusing consumers.
Based on the information received, authorities raided the illicit packaging unit in Okhla, arresting the main suspect, Tausam Ansari from Tehkhand village, while two others, Sagir Ahmed and Shahnawaz Ahmed of Sangam Vihar, were also apprehended.
Mohammad Jiyarat, who happens to be the mastermind and proprietor, is absconding, the statement read.
“Police recovered from the site 18 boxes of inner cone cigarette packaging, 45 kg of printed sheets, 33 printing plates, a printing dye, and a robust printing machine,” the officer said.
He continued by saying that low-priced products were acquired by the accused and disguised with forged holograms, labels, and packaging to imitate real brands.
They were allegedly supplied to dealers and wholesalers across Delhi-NCR, mostly through cash payments.
Further investigation into this case is ongoing by the team, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the mastermind who is at large.
