Unfinished Promise
The horror of a particularly brutal sexual assault in Bihar's Begusarai has once again provoked national outrage and revived memories of the crime that shook Delhi and India in December 2012. Such comparisons are understandable.

Heavy rains in the national capital disrupted services on the Blue Line of the Delhi Metro on Monday evening, leaving commuters stranded for nearly 50 minutes due to an Overhead Equipment (OHE) issue between Barakhamba and Indraprastha Metro stations.
Speaking to The Statesman on the matter, a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official said, “The OHE issue occurred due to heavy rains.”

A DMRC spokesperson elaborated: “Train services on the Blue Line were temporarily disrupted this evening from 7:30 PM to 8:20 PM between Barakhamba and Indraprastha stations after a small tree branch, which had become wet due to rain, fell on the OHE. This caused a short-circuit between the charged section of the OHE and the earthed section.”

To minimize inconvenience, DMRC regulated train movement. “Regular services were maintained from Indraprastha to Vaishali/Noida Electronic City, as well as from Barakhamba to Dwarka, in both directions. Between Barakhamba and Indraprastha, services were operated on a single line through the Up Line,” the spokesperson added.
Announcements were made at stations and inside trains to inform passengers, who were also advised to use alternative routes to reach their destinations.
The DMRC initially posted on X: “Delay in train services between Barakhamba and Indraprastha Metro stations. Normal services on all other lines.” In a later update, the DMRC confirmed: “Normal services have resumed.”
