The Delhi government, led by Rekha Gupta, ordered an audit of the CCTV project launched in the national capital under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rule after learning about significant lapses in its implementation.
The Chief Minister flagged several irregularities in the CCTV camera project rolled out under the previous AAP government. Of the 2.64 lakh cameras sanctioned across Delhi’s 70 assembly constituencies, more than 32,000 are currently non-functional, while nearly 15,000 are yet to be installed. The government also noted that in many areas, the actual number of installed cameras fell short of the approved target.

Citing these deficiencies, the BJP-led Delhi government has ordered a comprehensive technical audit of the project to identify lapses and assign accountability, according to a news agency on Friday.
Alleging corruption and bribery in the Rs 571 crore CCTV project for the national capital, the Delhi government’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) registered a case on March 19 against AAP leader and former minister Satyendar Jain.
Joint Commissioner of Police and head of the ACB, Madhur Verma, accused Jain of accepting bribes from contractors and waiving penalties imposed for delays in the installation of CCTV cameras. “A bribe of Rs 7 crore was allegedly arranged to be paid to Jain in exchange for waiving a Rs 16 crore penalty,” ACB alleged.
The agency also alleged that the AAP leader continued to place additional orders from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) despite delays in the delivery of past orders. The bribe was allegedly paid through contractors who benefited from the additional orders.
