Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved a comprehensive study for the redevelopment of the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) campus, which also houses key institutions such as Lok Nayak Hospital and G. B. Pant Hospital.
According to officials, the initiative aims to transform the national capital’s healthcare and medical education infrastructure into a modern, efficient system aligned with future needs.

The Chief Minister noted that the sprawling 137-acre campus includes major healthcare institutions such as the Guru Nanak Eye Centre and the Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS), functioning as an interconnected healthcare and academic ecosystem. She emphasised that the complex now requires a well-planned, integrated, and long-term redevelopment strategy.
To this end, the government has approved a consultancy assignment to conduct a comprehensive assessment and prepare a long-term redevelopment roadmap, to be executed in three phases.
In the first phase, a detailed master plan for the entire campus will be prepared in compliance with local regulations, including norms of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and other statutory provisions. The plan will be designed with a 30-year vision, factoring in future expansion and evolving requirements.
The second phase will involve a structural audit and technical evaluation of existing buildings. Based on these findings, modern designs, layouts, and redevelopment proposals for new infrastructure will be developed.
In the third phase, tender-related documentation will be prepared, and technical support will be extended throughout the tendering process to ensure timely and efficient execution.
The redevelopment project will include the planning and design of hospital and academic buildings, along with multi-storey residential complexes, hostels, nursing facilities, a fire station, upgraded sanitation systems, improved internal roads and connectivity, advanced security arrangements, cafeterias, and multi-level parking facilities.
The appointed consultant will also undertake digital ground surveys and prepare detailed engineering drawings, technical documents, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR).
Describing the campus as a critical pillar of Delhi’s healthcare system, Gupta said medical services and education operate simultaneously at the site. “The plan is to develop a well-structured and future-ready integrated healthcare and education hub,” she said.
She added that the redevelopment will go beyond infrastructure expansion to ensure improved patient care, enhanced efficiency in healthcare delivery, and a world-class environment for medical education.
