The Delhi Congress on Sunday criticised Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s visit to Chilla Village, where she participated in a cleanliness drive and interacted with children, describing the exercise as a publicity event rather than a solution to issues affecting residents.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav said that if the government was serious about cleaning the Yamuna and improving conditions in Delhi’s settlements, residents would not continue to face problems such as untreated sewage flowing into the river, pollution, garbage accumulation and inadequate sewer infrastructure.

He said that while the Chief Minister’s interaction with children was a positive gesture, the government’s priority should be ensuring access to clean surroundings, quality education, healthcare, safe drinking water and other basic civic amenities for people living in these areas.
The Congress also alleged that despite repeated announcements by the BJP government regarding the Yamuna clean-up, there has been no visible improvement in pollution or cleanliness on the ground. The party demanded that the government disclose the progress made in cleaning the river, the extent of pollution reduction achieved so far and the timeline for completing the initiative.
The opposition party further urged the Delhi government to focus on implementing measurable and accountable steps for cleaning the Yamuna, improving civic infrastructure in settlements and addressing pollution across the national capital.
