Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said Dr. Anil Gupta, an environmental expert, showed live on TV that after eight months of cleaning work, the river water has no foul smell, while the dissolved oxygen level is between 4.5 and 5.5, and the pH level is 7.5, which is close to nomal.

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva on Thursday claimed that due to Yamuna cleaning efforts by Chief Minister Rekha-led government in the past eight months, the condition of the river water has improved. He said one of his party members, an environmental expert and the party’s state unit spokesperson, even performed ‘aachman’ (ritual sipping) of the river water.

Sachdeva, accusing the previous Kejriwal government of turning the Yamuna into a dirty drain, said last year on October 25, he had taken a dip into the river at the ITO ghat to expose its miserable condition and had to be hospitalized.

He further said that the BJP spokesperson and environmental expert Dr. Anil Gupta on Thursday showed live on TV that after eight months of cleaning work, the river water has no foul smell, while the dissolved oxygen level is between 4.5 and 5.5, and the pH level is 7.5, which is close to nomal.

“The world witnessed how the Yamuna had become like a filthy drain, so much so that a dip into its water had landed me in the hospital,” he said in a statement.

The BJP leader alleged that the previous AAP government was involved in corruption in the name of cleaning Yamuna. As a consequence of this, it is no longer in power in the national capital.

The development comes close on heels of an announcement by the Delhi government’s Art and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra that the festival of Chhath will be celebrated at more than 1,300 locations across Delhi, fulfilling the promise of enabling worship along the Yamuna banks.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena and Mishra jointly inspected the Yamuna’s Vasudev Ghat for the ongoing preparations for the upcoming Chhath festival.
