With the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by-polls approaching, the contest is becoming increasingly competitive as parties and their candidates intensify their efforts to woo voters. Party meetings are being held across the 12 municipal wards that will go to the polls.

On Saturday, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, along with MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat, addressed a conference in support of the party’s candidate from the Dwarka B ward of the MCD.

Sachdeva said the party’s ‘Tridev’—comprising the Booth President, Shakti Kendra in-charge and Block President—forms the backbone of the organisation.

He urged workers to strengthen their connection with the people and to take Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies to every household.

“Let us resolve to work day and night to make our country strong and prosperous,” he added.

Meanwhile, addressing a meeting in the Chandni Mahal ward, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said the by-poll in this part of Old Delhi has become particularly interesting, claiming that his party’s candidate is poised for victory.

He attributed his confidence to the candidate’s strong local support, which he said comes from people across all walks of life and every community in the area.

According to Kapoor, although the candidates of both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are local residents, they are facing internal issues and lack full support from within their own parties.
