“Preparations are in full swing for the first-ever All India Speakers’ Conference in the national capital,” Gupta said.

Elaborate security measures are being planned to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. On Tuesday, officials from various departments, including the Public Works Department (PWD), inspected the venue to review progress and ensure that preparations remain on schedule.

This year’s conference holds special significance as it coincides with the centenary of Veer Vitthalbhai Jhaverbhai Patel’s election as the first Indian Speaker (then designated as President) of the Central Legislative Assembly on 24 August 1925. His election marked a defining moment in India’s parliamentary history. Hosting the 2025 conference in Delhi stands as a befitting tribute to his democratic legacy.

The two-day conference, scheduled for 24–25 August, will be formally inaugurated by the Union Home Minister and concluded by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. The event will also be attended by Union Cabinet Ministers, as well as the Speakers and Deputy Speakers of various State Legislatures.

Over the course of the deliberations, participants will discuss strengthening parliamentary democracy, refining legislative practices, promoting cooperative federalism, and enhancing the effectiveness of legislatures in addressing the aspirations of the people.

As part of the programme, a special exhibition showcasing India’s democratic journey and Patel’s contributions will be inaugurated. In addition, a documentary film tracing his life, vision, and role in shaping India’s parliamentary traditions will be screened, offering participants deeper insights into the values that continue to guide Indian democracy.

The Delhi Assembly Secretariat is making all necessary arrangements to ensure the successful conduct of this historic conference.
