Senior AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj has accused the BJP-led Delhi government of secretly dismantling an alleged “fake Yamuna” project at the Vasudev Ghat in the city. The accusation comes days after the conclusion of the Chhath Puja festivities.

Bharadwaj claimed that workers were removing a pipeline that his party had previously identified as an illegal connection used to supply filtered water to a specific section of the ghat, creating the appearance of a clean river for devotees. He stated that this pipeline was tapped from a main line connected to the Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant, an act he described as illegal.

He posed several questions to the Delhi Jal Board and the Delhi government, including who authorised the connection, whether the land-owning DDA made a formal request for it, which contractor executed the work, and if a tender was issued for the project.

Bharadwaj further asserted that the real Yamuna, flowing beside the ghat, has returned to its polluted state. To illustrate his point, he showed water and sludge from the river, describing it as being filled with sewage and human waste.

The allegations refer to a political controversy that emerged around the Chhath ghats, with the AAP and BJP trading charges over the management and presentation of the riverfront during the festival.
