The Delhi Police on Thursday arrested a 33-year-old man for his alleged involvement in duping a senior cardiologist at a hospital in South Delhi, officials said.
The accused, Jalaluddin, hailing from Rajasthan’s Alwar, impersonating an army cantonment officer seeking medical consultation for defence personnel defrauded the victim of more than Rs 6.69 lakh, they said, adding that he has at least seven cases of cheating and forgery registered against him across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

“The accused impersonated an Army officer, using pre-recorded videos of defence personnel during video calls to gain the victim’s trust,” said Ankit Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).
The officer further said, “After gaining their trust, the victims were persuaded to transfer money, which the accused then used to pay off his personal debts.”
On August 30, the victim from Apollo Hospital had received a call from a man introducing himself as an Army official.
He further claimed to be organising medical consultations for 25 Army personnel at Rs 1,500 each and convinced the complainant to transfer a total of Rs 6.69 lakh in four instalments from both his and his wife’s bank accounts, the DCP said.
Investigators later found that he had used Rs 6 lakh of the defrauded funds to clear a car loan and diverted an additional Rs 70,000 to pay off credit card dues. Police also recovered a car bought with the crime proceeds, three mobile phones, and Rs 70,000 frozen in a fixed deposit tied to the credit card settlement.
“The seized mobile phones were found to be connected to at least 26 other cases reported on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP),” the officer said.
“The team thoroughly scanned the leads gathered, and analysis of digital footprints and call records traced the accused to Alwar in Rajasthan. A team was promptly dispatched, and through further technical scrutiny and surveillance, his exact location was pinpointed to Khairthal, Alwar,” he added.
The police said that further investigation into this case is ongoing by the team, the DCP said.
