AAP holds BJP’s Delhi Govt, MCD responsible for Child’s death in Mundka waterlogging

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) of criminal negligence following the death of a six-year-old girl, who drowned in stagnant water in the Mundka area.

AAP leaders, including Ankush Narang, the Leader of Opposition in the MCD House, visited the family of the deceased in Rama Vihar, Ward 33. Narang stated that the locality has been submerged under approximately seven feet of stagnant water for months, which he described as a direct failure of the administration.

He contradicted Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s recent claims that there is no waterlogging in Delhi, calling the situation in Mundka a tragic example of the ground reality. The AAP has demanded compensation of Rs one crore for the child’s family and the immediate closure of an illegal waste dumping yard in Rama Vihar, which they allege is exacerbating the problem.

Narang further claimed that the BJP is creating a “fourth garbage mountain” in the area by shifting waste from other landfill sites like Bhalswa and Burari. He alleged that this illegal dumping is causing severe soil and water pollution, turning waterlogged plots into “death traps.”

Echoing these concerns, AAP leader Praveen Kumar alleged that the government’s actions are effectively “building a death well” for residents. Another party leader, Preeti Dogra, condemned the administration, claiming that the BJP has turned Delhi into a “city of garbage” where diseases like dengue and malaria are rampant.

The AAP has called for immediate intervention from Chief Minister Gupta and Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh to address the waterlogging, compensate the family, and improve the overall condition of the area.
