Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh on Thursday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of repeatedly disrupting the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House proceedings, stalling crucial public welfare decisions.
Speaking at a press conference at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civic Centre, Singh—joined by Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma and Leader of the House Pravesh Wahi—alleged that the AAP was engaging in “negative politics” and deliberately obstructing the functioning of the civic body.

“The monthly House meeting is a vital opportunity for councillors to raise ward-level issues. AAP has no interest in public welfare; their only agenda is to create disorder and halt progress,” Singh said.
He pointed out that while the BJP has held power in the MCD for just two months, it has already ramped up desilting operations. “Last year, 77,000 metric tonnes of silt were removed. This year, we have already cleared 1.4 lakh metric tonnes,” he said, asserting the corporation’s preparedness to tackle monsoon challenges.
Singh added that he was committed to public service and open to convening special sessions if needed to address citizens’ concerns.
Backing the mayor’s claims, Satya Sharma said that despite Wednesday’s heavy rains, there were no reports of waterlogging—even at low-lying Minto Road, which is typically the first to flood. “AAP was visibly agitated today because their allegations didn’t hold up, and that’s why they disrupted House proceedings,” she claimed.
Sharma further said the MCD administration has been proactive in its monsoon preparations, and early preventive measures have already shown results.
