A total of 149 buildings in Delhi have set up anti-smog guns ahead of the November 29 deadline, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The list comprises offices, hotels, commercial complexes, mixed-use developments, malls, and hospitals, as well as other government and private facilities.

According to an official from the environment department, 149 buildings were initially identified for anti-smog gun installation; however, a subsequent survey led the MCD to extend the requirement to more than 500 buildings.

“So far, 149 buildings have completed anti-smog gun installations, with work continuing across multiple commercial areas in the MCD jurisdiction, including hospitals, offices, malls, court complexes, commercial properties, and hotels,” the officer added.

The officer mentioned that in the New Delhi Municipal Council area, while the mandate covers over 20 buildings, only seven have had anti-smog guns installed so far.

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee is monitoring installation progress, with civic agencies providing daily compliance updates.

The official stated that the government will review measures against buildings that fail to comply after the November 29 installation deadline.

On September 11, the Delhi government directed that all commercial buildings of G+5 and above, as well as those with a built-up area exceeding 3,000 square metres, must install anti-smog guns.

Residential houses and housing societies were exempted from the mandate.

Anti-smog gun requirements vary with built-up area, beginning with three guns for buildings up to 10,000 square metres and increasing as the size of the building grows.

The equipment should stay active throughout the year, except when the monsoon is underway.
