The stock market on Thursday ended higher in a highly volatile session, with Nifty managing to close above 25,400, extending the winning run on its third consecutive day.
Sensex closed 320 points, or 0.39%, up at 83,013.96, while the Nifty 50 ended the day at 25,423.60, up 93 points, or 0.37%. The BSE Midcap index rose 0.36 per cent, while the Smallcap index ended flat.

The overall market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms stood at nearly Rs 466 lakh crore, compared to about Rs 465 lakh crore in the previous session.
Among the sectoral performances, Nifty Pharma and Healthcare indices rose 1.50% and 1.33% respectively, ending as the top gainers among sectoral indices. Nifty IT also ended with a healthy gain of 0.83%.
Those ending with losses were Nifty Media down by 0.30%, Realty down by 0.07%, and Oil & Gas down by 0.04%. Nifty Bank and Financial Services indices rose 0.42% and 0.50%, respectively while PSU Bank was down 0.16%.
On Nifty50, around 33 stocks ended higher with key names including Eternal up by 3%, HDFC Life Insurance Company up by 2%, and Sun Pharma up 1.75% ending as the top gainers.
The top losers of the index were Coal India, down by 1.70%, Bajaj Finance, down by 1.3%, and Trent, down by 1%.
Around 48 stocks hit their 52-week highs while in contrast, 170 stocks touched 52-week lows.
Those on the highs included Anand Rathi Wealth Ltd, Asahi India Glass Ltd, Ashok Leyland Ltd, Cummins India Ltd, Delhivery Ltd, Eternal Ltd, Hyundai Motor India Ltd, JSW Steel Ltd, Laurus Labs Ltd, L&T Finance Ltd, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Poonawalla Fincorp Ltd, Radico Khaitan Ltd, and Zydus Wellness Ltd.
The notable mentions on lows were Dhruv Consultancy Services Ltd, Digitide Solutions Ltd, Medicamen Biotech Ltd, Regaal Resources Ltd, and Vishnu Prakash R Punglia Ltd.
Poonawalla Fincorp shares hit their 52-week high by rising 14% amid promoter increasing stake after Rs 1,500-crore fund infusion.
NBFC’s board has approved the issuance of 3.31 crore shares to the promoter Rising Sun Holdings Pvt. Ltd. The fund infusion was done at a price of Rs 452.51 per share.
Jaykay Enterprises shares jumped more than 14% after the company disclosed that one of its step-down subsidiaries, Allen Reinforced Plastics Ltd, won a Rs 94.45 crore order from a government-owned entity.
On the global front, the London stocks advanced in line with a broader move across Europe after the US Federal Reserve cut interest rates for the first time this year.
