Market snaps 6-day losing streak ahead of RBI policy
At close, the Sensex was up 584.81 points or 0.72% at 81,634.81, and the Nifty was up 217.40 points or 0.88% at 25,013.20.
The Sensex was down 167.17 points at 38,822.57, while Nifty was down 58.80 points at 11,512.40.
The equity benchmark indices on Friday ended lower led by losses in Yes Bank and Vedanta, amid weak global cues. HDFC, IndusInd Bank, Tata Consultancy Services, Larsen & Toubro, ONGC and Vedanta were among the biggest drags on the Sensex.
At close, the Sensex was down 167.17 points at 38,822.57, while Nifty was down 58.80 points at 11,512.40. About 975 shares have advanced, 1519 shares declined, and 147 shares are unchanged.
Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, ITC, Bajaj Finserv and Kotak Mahindra Bank were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers were Zee Entertainment and Tata Steel.

All the sectoral indices ended lower led by the metal, auto, pharma, energy, infra, bank, and IT. BSE Midcap and smallcap also ended lower.
All the 11 sector gauges compiled by National Stock Exchange ended lower led by the Nifty Metal index’s 2.64 per cent fall. Nifty Realty, Nifty Media and Nifty Auto indexes also fell between 1.38-2.28 per cent.
Vedanta was the top loser in the Nifty 50 basket of shares. The stock fell 5.69 per cent to close at 156.65. Yes Bank dropped 5 per cent to close below Rs. 50-mark and settle at a fresh 52-week low. Tata Motors, Adani Ports, Bharat Petroleum, Britannia Industries and Grasim Industries also fell between 2.56 and 4.92 per cent.
The overall market breadth was negative as 1,128 shares closed lower while 652 ended higher on the NSE.
