The alumni association of Serampore Girls’ High School, Lal Barir Atit Gantha, hosted a spectacular inter-school cultural competition last Sunday, drawing over 350 participants. The resplendent event not only showcased the talents of young students but also reinforced the association’s commitment to nurturing a strong bond with the school while fulfilling its social responsibilities.

The competition, held across multiple categories including, English and Bengali spelling, recitation, drawing, singing, and dancing, was judged by a panel of esteemed alumni and professionals. A highlight of the event was its inclusive spirit. The participation of CWSN (children with special needs) students from Ashraya, a school for special children, was a shining example of this inclusivity. Sotoborto Ghoshal and Manali Dey mesmerised the audience with their recitation and song-and-dance performances, respectively. Kaberi Mukherjee, an alumna and the teacher-in-charge of Ashraya, expressed her overwhelming joy at this effort towards inclusion.

Dr Ivy Sarkar aptly noted: “With such a formidable array of talent, administrators, and achievers within our alumni fold, our Association is poised to achieve greatness.” The association also donated two ceiling fans to the school, further demonstrating its commitment to giving back. The school’s Madhyamik and Higher Secondary toppers were felicitated by the alumni on the occasion.

This event marked a significant milestone in the Association’s journey, which has already been enriched by initiatives such as video-making seminars, workshops on healthy diets, and cultural festivals like Abir Utsob. As the association continues to forge ahead, its commitment to inclusivity, creativity, and community engagement stands out as a beacon of hope for the community.

Mitra Kundu, a professional dancer and alumna who judged the dance competition, aptly summed up the essence of the event: “This event has not only showcased the incredible talent of our students but has also underscored the importance of inclusivity, creativity, and community engagement. I am honoured to be a part of this journey.”
