Salma Ansari, wife of former vice-president Hamid Ansari, highlighted the need to go beyond the structured and mechanical education system and infuse passion and spirit in teaching.

At the 30th Anniversary of Annual Award Giving Ceremony of The Delhi School Literacy Project held at Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan, Ansari commemorated the relentless efforts and deep commitment of the student community to uphold the beacon of literacy.

The Chairperson of Al Noor Charitable Society advised the students that only a combination of head and heart ignites the soul adding that “where there is no heart there is no purpose”.

On the occasion, she released ‘Jagriti’ – a compendium of work of students on literacy. Ansari also presented awards and certificates to the participating schools.

The Bhatnagar International School, Vasant Kunj, won the Sufia Ajmali Trophy for making the largest number of literates. The Henry Selz Foundation Trophy for second largest literates was won by Manav Sthali School, New Rajinder Nagar.

Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan, brought home the UNICEF Trophy for showing maximum participation. Springdales School, Pusa Road, was awarded the ML Kapoor Memorial Trophy for excellence for making the highest numbers of learners, with 3673 learners literate.

Baldev and Kamala Bhatia Memorial Trophy went to New Era Public School, Maya Puri, for their work in the community. Evergreen Senior Secondary School, Vasudhara Enclave and Bluebells School, Kailash Colony, shared the Rotary Club Trophy for the Best All Round Performance.

The Satpal Singh Memorial Trophy for new programmes and initiatives was awarded to Gyan Mandir Public School, Naraina Vihar.

Before Ansari’s address, school principal Dr Jyoti Bose welcomed the guests and expressed her elation at the undeterred determination of the young generation to serve the deprived section of the society.

Honorary Advisor to the DSLP and Chairperson of Springdales Education Society Rajni Kumar thanked the member schools and student volunteers for their collective and passionate endeavours in transforming lives and  in trying to build a beautiful India of our dreams.
