Facing widespread criticism over a series of errors in the newly introduced school textbooks, the Odisha Government on Wednesday announced that it will replace the flawed books with revised, error-free editions for all students studying in Classes I to VIII.

Addressing the media, School & Mass Education Department Secretary N. Thirumala Naik said the State Government has decided to provide completely error-free textbooks to students at the earliest after several mistakes were identified in the books introduced for the 2026–27 academic session.

He said Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has taken the issue very seriously and directed the constitution of a high-level inquiry committee, under the chairmanship of the Development Commissioner, to investigate how the errors occurred and identify those responsible.

Based on the committee’s recommendations, the Government has already initiated action against those found accountable and will take further action wherever necessary, Naik said.

The Secretary informed that all identified errors are currently being reviewed and verified in consultation with subject experts. The revised versions of the textbooks will soon be uploaded to the websites of the School & Mass Education Department and the Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) to invite suggestions and feedback from academicians and the general public.

After incorporating the feedback and completing the review process, the final corrected textbooks will be printed and distributed free of cost to students across the State.

Until the revised textbooks are available, the Government will provide teachers with corrected content to ensure that classroom teaching continues without disruption, Naik added.

The announcement comes amid mounting criticism from opposition parties and educationists over numerous factual, grammatical, and printing errors detected in the newly developed textbooks, prompting the State Government to initiate corrective measures and order an inquiry into the lapses.
