Heritage bookstore in College St set to open new outlet
Dasgupta, the well-known heritage bookstore in the city, is going to open its outlet in south Kolkata on 1 May.
Acting on a concrete tipoff that prohibited drugs were being sold near the university campus, police raided the area and arrested two persons in front of the gate no. 2 of Jadavpur University.
Within 24 hours of two drug peddlers being arrested from Darga Road area, the narcotics team of the detective department of Kolkata Police has nabbed two persons for trying to sell ganja near Jadavpur University last night.
Acting on a concrete tipoff that prohibited drugs were being sold near the university campus, police raided the area and arrested two persons in front of the gate no. 2 of Jadavpur University. Ganja weighing about 4.30 grams and packed in small plastic packets was seized from their possession.
Police said the drug sellers used to sell cannabis or weed, also known as ganja, mainly to the students of the university. Students from other colleges in nearby areas also purchased this prohibited drug from them. The arrested persons have confessed that they have been running this trade for the last three to four months.

The accused has been identified as Abbasuddin Laskar (34) and Asgar Mistri, both residents of Padmerhat village of Jaynagar in South 24-Parganas. They came here regularly with this banned substance and targeted the university students residing in the hostels near the university campus. Based on the arrested duo’s information, police are trying to identify the students who were their customers.
On Friday night the officers from the detective department had arrested two drug sellers from Darga Road near Park Circus and confiscated brown sugar worth Rs 50,000. In that case, the arrested persons had also revealed that their prime customers were students and youngsters. Police were on alert ever since their arrest and they were keeping an eye on inputs which could expose such drug rackets in the city.
Barely a month ago, police busted a drug racket in the southern part of the city after they picked up five youths from a Sarat Bose Road office. Following their confessional statements, three drug dealers were also nabbed by police from S. P. Mukherjee Road.
