The Syamaprasad Mookerjee Port (SMPK) has invited tenders to hire service for real time day and night surveillance of Kolkata Dock using drone technology.
The drone surveillance, according to sources, is to be done particularly at Netaji Subhas Docks (NSD). Or even in other areas of the Kolkata Dock System for 12 hours per day. Before the installation of the drone system the service provider is also to conduct a site survey to assess the total dock area that is required to be covered by the drone. The city port authorities are mulling over deploying drones that are to have features of geo-tagging, perimeter monitoring, vehicle tracking, vehicle congestion monitoring, entry of vehicles or humans in restricted zones, object detection along with fire/smoke detection. It will be both real time and post processed.

For operating the drone surveillance system, the city port authorities are also considering setting up a ground control station. While the SMP would provide space for the facility, the service provider would have to arrange for the necessary infrastructure like power connectivity, for taking the power supply from the nearest power source to their ground control station or control room. A big LED screen is also to be deployed to view real time drone video footage and AI features. The real time video for the KDS area and the real time video of drone surveillance would be displayed live on the LED display Screens installed in the port control room at gate number four of the Netaji Subhash Dock while the drone flight would be controlled through ground control station.

The port authorities are planning to have data of the drone on both a real time and post processed basis. The system would allow the city port officials to locally monitor the drone surveillance video feed through LED monitor/video wall for at least the last 90 days of recording.
