Theater festival in Siliguri
Theater Festival 2024 will be held in Siliguri from 13-17 December, mayor Gautam Deb announced on Monday.
The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) in association with the Siliguri College will observe the bicentennial birth anniversary of Michael Madhusudan Dutt.
The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) in association with the Siliguri College will observe the bicentennial birth anniversary of Michael Madhusudan Dutt. Siliguri mayor Goutam Deb today said the bicentennial birth anniversary will be organised on 24-25 January.
According to him, a twoday seminar on Bengali poet Madhusudan Dutt will be held in Siliguri College. Poet Subodh Sarkar, Shrabani Paul associated with Rabindra Bharati University, Pranab Bhattacharya from Panchanan Barma University, Calcutta University’s Sanat Naskar, Manjula Bera from the University of North Bengal and two professors Manjur Ahmed and Md Sahabuddin, associated with the universities in Bangladesh will attend the seminar.

Mr Deb also informed that an exhibition on Madhusudan’s life and his creation has been arranged with the help of the director information and cultural affairs department at Ramkinkar Hall and it would be open for all from 4pm on 24 January.

The SMC has also organised a cultural and prize distribution programme at Dinabandhu Mancha on 25 January night. A recitation competition is going on here on Michael Madhusudan Dutt’s poems to mark his bicentennial birth anniversary. Cultural artists here will also perform and present a drama Buro Shaliker Ghare Rno, written by Michael.
