Six more children dead at B C Roy Children’s Hospital

Amidst the adenovirus scare, six more kids died in the last 24 hours at B C Roy Hospital today with adenovirus-like symptoms.

The dead children were from Metiabruz and Basirhat areas. They were reported to have been admitted to the hospital with symptoms of fever and respiratory ailments. The children were kept in the pediatric ICU but they failed to respond to medical treatment.

The number of children being admitted in the ICU in the coming days could go up, according to sources.

With the new deaths today, the number of deaths in various hospitals in the state is said to have reached 94 in the last two months.

Of the total, 39 children are said to have died in B C Roy Hospital only.

Meanwhile, the mayor of KMC, Firhad Hakim, said, “The government is taking the matter very seriously. The CM is conducting meetings herself and talking to experts about it. But there is good news that the weather has become sufficiently warm and the attack of pneumonia and adenovirus has decreased.”

Notably, the state Health Department has issued an advisory for doctors to take particular care of children being taken to hospitals with flu-like symptoms.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has issued an advisory for its health workers, asking the Asha Workers to visit houses in their areas to find out about children who are ill and persuade their parents to visit the doctor
