The scale of Sebaashray in Diamond Harbour has always been staggering as both the editions provided assistance to people across the state.
In the first phase, conducted over 75 days, as many as 12,35,773 patients received medical services. During Sebaashray 2 many received critical care and got operated after attending the camps.
Anurag Pal, a 10-year-old boy whose left leg was critically affected following a severe dengue-related infection, underwent a paediatric Ilizarov operation at Ganga Super Speciality Hospital in Coimbatore.
Vision care emerged as another defining pillar of this phase. Around 5,000 people received free spectacles. Besides, many elderly patients underwent cataract surgeries.
The Diamond Harbour Model Camp, the first-ever two-storey facility, stood out for its design. It also housed an ICU facility. The model is now being replicated in many other constituencies in West Bengal. It inspired other MPs and MLAs, including Partha Bhowmick, Chandrima Banerjee among others to initiate such medical camps in their constituencies.
Across camps, tricycles and wheelchairs were distributed, in several instances personally handed over by Abhishek Banerjee himself. Critical referrals also helped many patients get timely intervention. Two elderly patients were referred to the Jagannath Gupta Institute of Medical Sciences, one a 71-year-old suffering from a severe brain haemorrhage and the other 79-year-old brought in unconscious with seizures, later diagnosed with a serious brain tumour.
Prince Dutta was treated by plastic and general surgery teams, Mohammad Sadab of Maheshtala underwent oral cancer treatment under ENT and head-neck specialists.
At one of the Metiabruz camps, young footballers from Akra Shaktigarh Rabindra Vidyapith came in for routine health check-ups, a reminder that healthcare shapes aspirations as much as it heals ailments.
Throughout the second phase, Abhishek Banerjee personally visited model camps across the district, interacting with critical patients and medical teams alike.
In addition, Sebaashray 2 also had its own title song being launched in between the camps.
