The body of a youth, who went missing three days ago, was recovered today, and police suspect a triangular love affair to be behind the crime.

His body was found buried in a field at Char Meghna, a border area between India and Bangladesh under Hogolberia police station limits in Nadia. Police officers said the deceased has been identified as Amiyo Biswas (27), a resident of Arabpur village in Hogolberia. His body was exhumed soon after his friend, Animesh Mondol, was arrested by the police.

Later, the police while conducting a probe into this matter arrested two other persons who were allegedly involved in the murder. The three persons were produced before the Tehatta additional chief judicial magistrate court yesterday where the magistrate remanded them to the police custody for seven days.

A senior police officer said investigations into Biswas’s disappearance gave clues which suggested that there was something fishy. As the police investigated, they gathered information on a love triangle involving Biswas.

As the probe progressed, the police received information that the victim’s close friend Animesh Mondol might be involved in the case. The police then arrested Animesh who finally confessed to the crime and gave information about the location where the body was buried. Accordingly, the police went to the site and exhumed the body.

The police investigation reveals that the victim had an affair with a girl, a resident of nearby Rajapur village, where the accused also used to live. The victim also owed Rs 70,000 to the accused and the latter had demanded the same for the last few days. On Friday, Animesh called Amiyo and the latter went out from his house at around 9 pm. The two friends got into a heated arguments when Animesh demanded his money.

Animesh called up his friends Badesh Mondol and Selim Sheikh who reached there and they finally committed the crime. During his confession Animesh said that they first strangled Amiyo to death with a towel and then buried
