A group of around seven miscreants looted passengers travelling in the AC two tier coaches of the Up-Gour Express bound for Malda at around 2:30 a.m. today when the train was about to reach Guskara station in Burdwan district. It is learnt that two women were also beaten up by the miscreants as they tried to take on the men.

Police personnel on the train gave the men a chase, but they managed to flee, while hurling stones at the police team.

The victims travelling in the train later filed a written complaint with the Rampurhat GRP and also informed the Malda GRP about the incident this morning

Debolina Sinha from Sunny Park, one of the passengers, and Diptashi Chakrabarti of Gangabag area lost almost Rs 10,000 each, along with their mobile phones, while they were roughed up when they tried to stop the miscreants.

“The miscreants pulled the chain of the S12 coach. After around 20 minutes of snatching and looting in the A2 and A3 coaches, the miscreants jumped out of the train near Guskara station in the dark, while police chased them in vain,” said one of the witnesses.
