Many people in the Hooghly district have received notifications stating the deactivation of their Aadhaar cards. People from Hooghly Kodaliya 1 and 2 gram panchayat, Ravindra Nagar, Sukanta Nagar, Mogra 1 gram panchayat, Sukanta Pally, Mathapara, Berikuti Notun Gram, Jaipur, Pompa Colony, nearly 70 heads have received notice stating the deactivation of their Aadhaar cards.

Rabindra Nagar resident Hemlata Bairagi said, “I have received an Aadhaar deactivation notice. My bank account is linked with an Aadhaar number and I fear I may face problems in carrying on my bank transaction. Dilip Kumar Roy said, “Soon after receiving the Aadhaar deactivation notice, I got my biometric updated from the post office. I am supposed to receive the new updated Aadhaar card within one month.”

Sources said the deactivation of Aadhaar card is done as per 28A rule. This act is applicable for people of foreign origin. Hence, a lot of confusion and panic have gripped the victims. However, the BJP state president, Sukanta Mazumdar and central minister Santunu Thakhur at a media interaction said, “No Aadhaar card will be rejected. The deactivated cards will soon get activated after the receiver of the Aadhaar card deactivation notice fills up a prescribed form.”
