A section of local residents claimed that the vibrations from the running Metro rakes beneath the residential structures were causing increased vibrations of late. However, the Metro authorities issued a Press communiqué today stating that it was ‘not responsible for any further damages of the building in the area nor responsible for repairs or compensation.’

“Metro engineers have studied the building on 08.12.2025 and after having analysed, made an assessment about the condition of this building and it has been found that even before the East-West Metro tunnelling work began here, the age-related deterioration of the building had started. But the repair of the previous damages prior to tunnelling due to age-related deterioration of the building without any maintenance by the residents is beyond the scope of Kolkata Metro Railway. The tunnelling work has now been completed and Metro services have been commissioned. No heavy engineering work is being executed in the area, we are not responsible for any further damages of the building in the area nor responsible for repairs or compensation,” read the release.

Metro authorities have requested Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) to inspect this century old building at 107, BB Ganguly Street for taking appropriate action as required,” read the statement.

According to the local councillor Biswarup Dey, the repairing works of the affected building are being carried out by the metro authorities. “We have sought an appointment with mayor Firhad Hakim to discuss the matter,” informed Mr Dey. “We hope to discuss the matter with him by this week,” he added.
