Indian Navy conducts free medical camp at Sagar

As a precursor to Navy Day celebrations, the Indian Navy recently conducted a free medical camp at Sagar in South 24-Parganas that catered to 350 people including the local populace and fishermen community in particular.

The spokesperson of Naval Station Netaji Subhas, Kolkata, informed that the medical camp was organised by INS Netaji Subhas under the aegis of NOIC, West Bengal. The aim of the outreach programme was to bring about awareness amongst civil populace about role of the Navy and also to encourage youngsters to consider the Navy as a viable career option.

It was learnt that a medical team comprising two medical officers, six paramedical staff and two senior sailors from INS Netaji Subhas, conducted the camp. The doctors conducted outpatient consultation for medical, surgical, paediatric, eye, ENT, skin and cardiology ailments, followed by distribution of medicines. Over 350 people were benefited by the medical camp which was supported by the local administration and several volunteers including local NCC cadets. A similar medical camp is also planned by Indian Navy at Sankijahan on 5 September.

The spokesperson said such medical camps by Indian Navy are conducted every year, in conjunction with the Community Interaction Programme for the fishing community who are ‘eyes and ears’ of coastal security.

Additionally, as part of CIP, a health lecture on prevention of water and mosquito borne diseases, and basic first aid was delivered by the PMO, INS Netaji Subhas to local fishing community and residents of the area.
