A few days ago four children, who were playing with others in the under construction trench along the Indo-Bangladesh border to prevent cattle smuggling, died after a subsidence. They were completely buried there due to subsidence.

The Governor Dr Bose assured that the entire matter will be reported to the Centre.

Dr Bose also visited the nearby Border Outpost of the BSF and interacted with them about the incident in detail.

Following the incident, the Trinamul Congress leadership protested against the incident and blamed the BSF. The TMC alleged that four children died due to reluctance and negligence of the Central agency for digging trench close to the border village.

Even chief minister West Bengal Mamata Banerjee came down heavily on the BSF on this issue.

The Trinamul Congress leaders met the Governor on this issue and requested to visit the area. A West Bengal Child Rights panel team visited the Chetnagach and met the family members of the deceased. Local TMC leaders staged protests at Chetnagach since the incident took place. Following instruction from the chief minister Mamata Banerjee, TMC leader and cabinet minister Chandrima Bhattacharya yesterday visited the Chetnagach and joined the party’s protest dharna.

Dr Bose arrived in Kishanganj in Bihar by Darjeeling Mail today this morning and rushed to the spot and then left for Siliguri this afternoon.
