Abijit Banerjee, SP of Purulia, said the bodies have been recovered and sent to Deben Mahato Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. “We are awaiting the post-mortem report,” he added.

Ananda Gorai, the husband of the deceased, said he went to Jharkhand yesterday and, on returning home this morning, found them lying dead.

Prima facie, it appears all four may have died due to food poisoning, the local police suspect, though foul play has not been ruled out. Officers from Bandwan Police have also questioned neighbours and family members.
The deaths of so many people, barely two days before Durga Puja, have caused a huge stir in the area.
