A massive fire broke out at an administrative building of the Central Dairy in Milk Colony in Belgachia today. The fire broke out at a building that was close to a plastic packet manufacturing unit of the dairy in Milk Colony.

At least 12 engines were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.

The fire broke out this afternoon and a vast stretch of the area was covered in thick black smoke. The state fire and emergency services minister Sujit Bose rushed to the spot to take a note of the fire fighting process. “Our firemen are trying to douse the flames from three points. This is the administrative building where the fire has occurred. The fire had started from some inflammable substances like plastic. Fire has been arrested from inside to a great extent. But the entire fire would take some time to bring under control because of the presence of plastic,” said Mr Bose.

The shooting flames allegedly triggered panic among the workers and the local residents. A section of workers claimed that a major number of his fellow staff was away attending a political programme and the factory had a skeletal presence of employees. Considering the fact, some of the workers also alleged ‘sabotage’ behind the devastating fire demanding an investigation into the matter.
