Fair on organic vegetables and rice begins in Raiganj

A unique two day seed festival 2024 and organic agricultural fair started at Raiganj today. The venue of the fair is Hatia High School. It is being organized by Forum for Indigenous Agricultural Movement ( FIAM).

A unique two day seed festival 2024 and organic agricultural fair started at Raiganj today. The venue of the fair is Hatia High School. It is being organized by Forum for Indigenous Agricultural Movement ( FIAM). Bharat Bij Swaraj Mancha, Bharat Agro Ecology and Kiston Foundation have assisted the organizers to hold the fair.

More than 100 farmers will exhibit various kinds of rice, wheat, millet, different kinds of vegetables and seed of 700 different kinds. Many farmers have grown seed following indigenous method. This is for the first time in north Bengal that organic vegetables will be exhibited. Many farmers from outside states have come to the fair like Srimohan Bera from Assam, Anil Sahadaya from Bihar, Lalu Samprit from Haryana, Kumanna Sambamurthy from Andhra Pradesh. Various kinds of rice like Dadkhani, Balam, Bashful, Tulaipunji and Radhatilak will be displayed as well as sold to the visitors.

There will be awareness drives against spurious rice. Country made healthy and nutritious food, experimental cuisine, books food and various kinds of honey produced by Swarnendu Sarkar will be displayed at the fair. Manabi Sabarmati, Padmashree awardee and a conservationist on rice and seed and seed conservationist of 400 varieties of vegetable seeds has joined the fair. many agricultural scientists have joined the fair. People from far off places have visited the fair.

There is awareness campaign to increase the production of organic vegetables whose demand is fast growing. Shops have been set up across the state to sell organic vegetables and rice.
