Ex- minister Arup Biswas gets summoned

Former state sports minister Aroop Biswas was summoned by Bidhannagar South police station on Tuesday in connection with the alleged controversy surrounding the Lionel Messi event held at Salt Lake Stadium on 13 December, 2025.

Mr Biswas has been asked to appear before investigating officers at Bidhannagar South police station on 4 June.

Today’s development follows an FIR lodged on Saturday by the event organiser, Satadru Dutta, who has also sought compensation of Rs 100 crore, alleging substantial financial losses and defamation arising from the incident.

Mr Dutta, who was arrested following the alleged disorder at the event and later released on bail, filed complaints against the former sports minister and several other dignitaries. He alleged that they entered the ground and disregarded event protocols despite repeated requests from organisers to adhere to them.

Earlier, Mr Dutta had submitted a formal complaint to Bidhannagar South police station against Mr Biswas and others. Based on that complaint, Bidhannagar Police registered five FIRs under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The charges include Section 3(5) for common intention, Section 308(2) relating to extortion, Section 318(4) concerning cheating and dishonest inducement, Section 351(2) for criminal intimidation, and Section 61(2) pertaining to criminal conspiracy.
