A Citu leader, who led the industrial strike on 9 July was allegedly denied entry to his workplace today by the block president of the Trinamul Congress (TMC), sparking widespread sensation in the area.
Siddhartha Basu, a district-level Citu leader, had spearheaded the strike in the industrial town. This morning, as he attempted to resume his duties at a privately-owned steel unit on Kanjilal Avenue, he was allegedly prevented from entering the premises by Rintu Panja, the TMC block president.

Basu claimed: “Panja and his aides instructed me to obtain an approval letter from the TMC district president, Narendranath Chakraborty, before reporting to work. They then physically pushed me away from the factory gate.”
Basu has since lodged a complaint with the local police.
TMC district president Narendranath Chakraborty, meanwhile, denied any involvement, stating: “The Citu leader should pursue the matter through the police. At no point have I ever instructed my party workers to interfere in such undemocratic actions.”
Panja also refuted the allegation, claiming: “This is a conspiracy against me.”
Incidentally, Panja had been arrested a few months ago on charges of pilfering iron scrap from a factory.
