The water bodies within the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area are being cleaned from time to time with the help of local councillors.
Bidhannagar Ward 38 councillor Alo Dutta is also getting the ponds in her area cleaned on a regular basis.
There are 64 small and big ponds in the ward, said officials.

Like precious weeks, today, the ponds were cleaned with the help of local clubs. Among them, one pond (Chhath Mayee pond), one opposite it and two other ponds in the vicinity are being cleaned with the help of BMC.
Local sources said that today it was the turn of Swamiji Sangha Club to clean the ponds.
“We have around 40,000 plus population in the ward and the ponds get dirty. We get them cleaned with the help of local clubs. A few of our ponds have guppy fish cultivation, which eat dengue mosquito larvae,” said a ward member.
Rahima Bibi Mandal, MMIC (environment), said, “In BMC area there are quite a few wards with water bodies. Many of them are privately owned and we from time to time tell them to clean these ponds. WE also tell them if they find it difficult to maintain, the BMC can do pisciculture there, which will mean the ponds remain clean. We also take action to clean these ponds as people bathe there and also offer prayers. Whenever the local councillors tell us, we extend our full cooperation. We take the measures to see that these ponds are not filled up or become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.”
