The divisional railway manager of Kathihar, AK Verma, today visited the Balurghat railway station before the official flagging-off of the Balurghat-Howrah express train that will now run five days a week instead of the two days until now.

The chief public relations officer of the Kathihar division of the Railways has said that rail minister Pijush Goyal is scheduled to flag off the train through a video conference tomorrow evening. Balurghat member of parliament Sukanta Majumdar will be present at the inaugural function at the Balurghat station.

In the year 2014, Congress leader and then Minister of State for Railways, Adhir Chowdhury, had introduced the Howrah-Balurghat bi-weekly express as he fulfilled the demand of the people of South Dinajpur for a direct train to the state capital. Before that, there were two trains to Kolkata, one in the morning and another in the evening as the Malda-Sealdah Gour-link Express.
