Trinamul Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee welcomed the Supreme Court direction to the Election Commission of India to publish the list of the people whose names have come under the ‘logical discrepancy’ category.

He was addressing a gathering titled Rana Sankalpa Abhijan at the Kachari Maidan in Barasat this afternoon.

The Supreme Court in its order stated a list containing names of logical discrepancy and unmapped voters to be put up. As per the order, BLA2s will be allowed during the hearing. Their presence has been a bone of contention between the ruling and opposition parties. The number of hearing centres also needs to be increased. The Madhyamik examination admit card will now be accepted as a valid document and receipts of the documents received will have to be given to the voters.

Mr Banerjee said on 31 December, 2025, a 10-member Trinamul Congress delegation met the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and submitted a memorandum requesting him to consider the demands of the party. “We demanded that the list of 1.35 crore people were being harassed in the name of logical discrepancy despite having all the documents and sent hearing notices be published. The ECI had refused to publish the list as that would have exposed the BJP.”

He said 92 people have died so far, unable to bear the strain after hearing notices were sent to them. “The BJP’s game is over. This is the victory of Ma Mati Manush and the people of Bengal,” he said.

Mr Banerjee said: “In the forthcoming Assembly election, it is essential to defeat the BJP not only for ensuring victory of Mamata Banerjee for the fourth time, but also to punish the saffron party which has deliberately deprived Bengal. They have stopped the fund meant for 100 days’ work. They have stopped the money meant for the construction of rural roads, supply of filtered water under the Jal Jivan Mission and rural houses. After failing to win Bengal, the BJP tried all sorts of tricks to punish the people here. Now, it is our turn to punish them.”

He urged the party workers to ensure that the party candidates win all the 33 Assembly seats in North 24-Parganas. “Out of five Lok Sabha seats in North 24-Parganas, Trinamul Congress lost the Bongaon seat while the party candidates won by thumping majority in the remaining four seats. This time, we will have to win all the Assembly seats in North 24-Parganas district.”

He said the BJP is anti-Bengali and anti-Bengal. “Bengali speaking migrant workers have been abused and killed just because they spoke the language. The BJP leaders said Bengali is not a language and now they have come to beg for votes in Bengal. It has infused hate politics in Bengal and tried to disturb our communal harmony. We have learnt Hinduism from Swami Vivekananda and not listen to the Hindutva as preached by Yogi Adityanath.”

Mr Banerjee said the BJP will spend money to buy the voters. “Take their money and vote for Ma Mati Manus to oust the BJP forever in Bengal,” he said.
