The Diamond Harbour MP added that she should not worry about her husband, as the state government was keeping close watch on the matter and would ensure his return to India soon. Sunali Khatun, along with her two children, is currently staying at her in-laws’ house in Paikar village, Birbhum district.
TMC core committee chairperson for Birbhum district Anubrata Mondal, has already visited Rampurhat Medical College Hospital during her admission and held discussions with the MSVP and other doctors.
Meanwhile, Sweety Khatun, another woman from Birbhum district, is still in Bangladesh, leaving her family anxious. TMC Rajya Sabha MP Samirul Islam is handling the matter on behalf of the state government.
Earlier, Delhi Police had arrested the women and deported them to Bangladesh through the BSF, terming them illegal immigrants after their arrest in Rohini. Residents of Birbhum district, they had been working as migrant labourers in Delhi and living in Rohini.
The Calcutta High Court has directed the central government to bring them back as soon as possible. While Sunali Khatun and her son have returned, others are still awaiting repatriation to Birbhum.
“Abhishek Banerjee called me today to ask about my health and whether I am facing any problems. I am very happy after speaking with him and have urged him to bring my husband back to India as soon as possible,” said Sunali Khatun.
