Twelve railway stations in the state, after Digha, are being developed as ‘EcoSmart’ stations by South Eastern Railway.

A full-fleged work is already on at important railway stations including Shalimar and Santragachhi, a few kilometres away from the city.

The railway authorities had announced an upgradation of 21 railway stations across the country, which are under South-Eastern Railway. Out of 21, Ranchi and Digha stations have received the ISO certificates.

“At Digha , work on upgrading the railway station into ‘Eco-Smart’ station has almost been completed,” informed Mr Sanjoy Ghosh, CPRO, SER.

“A team officials from the state pollution control board will also visit the station within a month, to check if the essential parameters have been followed and implemented properly. Work to develop other stations on the line of Digha Station is being carried simultaneously,” he added.

Notably, Digha station, attracting a large number of tourists, has recently received the ISO certificate for meeting the required environmental standards. As part of the green initiative, bottle crushing machine has been installed in the station and has been declared as ‘no plastic zone.’
