The West Bengal police have arrested two youths from Ashoknagar in the state’s North 24 Parganas district in connection with the donation box theft at the Sarbamangala Temple in Bardhaman town.
The theft at the temple occurred on 14 July after midnight. A case was registered against the youths under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The accused were identified as Alamgir Sardar, a resident of Sabdalpur that comes under the ambit of Ashoknagar police station, and Monirul Mandal of Sikra village under the Amdanga police station area. The duo were produced before the Bardhaman court on Monday, where the police sought seven days’ custody for further investigation.

According to Sanjay Ghosh, Secretary of the Sarbamangala Trust Board, the miscreants had broken open the temple gate, looted four donation boxes, and stolen gold ornaments and utensils from a Shiva temple inside the complex. The arrests were made after examining the CCTV footage.
