On the occasion of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) paid tribute to the brave soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces, honouring their indomitable courage, valour and sacrifice.

He is currently serving as the Director of Subharti Defence Academy. Colonel Tyagi shared his experiences from the war with the audience and recounted inspiring stories of the bravery of Indian soldiers. He encouraged the students to strengthen their spirit of patriotism and pursue their dreams with confidence by becoming physically and mentally strong.

To familiarise young people with the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas, a drawing activity on the theme “Guarding the Borders” was also organised for the students. Through their artwork, the students paid tribute to the brave soldiers who continue to guard the country’s borders in difficult terrains and adverse conditions without regard for their own lives.

“Some of the artworks created by the students will also be displayed at Begampul Namo Bharat Station for commuters and the general public,” a spokesperson of the NCRTC said on Saturday.

The programme also featured a musical performance by youth band _Abhigarv_ , making the occasion even more memorable. Through patriotic songs, the band paid tribute to the courage and valour of the Indian Armed Forces and filled the entire atmosphere with a spirit of patriotism.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on 26 July to commemorate India’s victory in the Kargil War of 1999. During the military campaign, known as Operation Vijay, the Indian Army regained control of strategic positions in the Kargil region that had been occupied by Pakistan-backed infiltrators near the Line of Control.

The conflict, which lasted from May to July 1999, concluded with the Indian Army recapturing several key mountain peaks, including Tiger Hill. The year 2026 marks the 27th anniversary of this historic victory and serves as a reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of the Indian soldiers who displayed extraordinary courage and laid down their lives in defence of the nation.

The NCRTC continuously strives to develop Namo Bharat stations not only as transit facilities but also as vibrant public spaces that reflect the national, social and cultural values connected with the daily lives of commuters.

The programme organised on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas is another meaningful initiative in this direction, aimed at further strengthening respect for the valour and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces during the Kargil War, while fostering national pride and collective remembrance.
