The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled an alleged cross-border drug and illegal arms trafficking network, arresting four suspected smugglers and recovering 5.557 kilograms of heroin along with two pistols in a major operation, Punjab Police said on Saturday.
According to the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), the preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested individuals were in contact with foreign-based smugglers who allegedly facilitated the supply of heroin and firearms from across the border.

The consignments were reportedly intended for distribution among criminal elements operating in Punjab and other regions, indicating the involvement of a wider international trafficking syndicate. Police said the seizure highlights an organised attempt to push narcotics and illegal weapons into the state, posing a serious threat to law and order.
Investigators believe the accused were acting as part of a larger network engaged in cross-border smuggling activities.
Separate FIRs have been registered at Islamabad and Chheharta police stations in Amritsar. Officials said investigators are working to trace both the forward and backward links of the network to identify additional members of the syndicate and their overseas handlers.
The accused are being questioned in detail, and information gathered during the investigation has led police teams to conduct follow-up raids at multiple locations. Authorities said further arrests are likely as the probe progresses.
Reaffirming its commitment to tackling narcotics and illegal arms trafficking, Punjab Police said the campaign against cross-border smuggling networks would continue with full force. Officials asserted that the entire network would be dismantled and all those involved would be brought to justice.
Police also appealed to the public to share any information related to drug trafficking or illegal weapons, saying timely public cooperation would strengthen efforts to curb organised crime and keep the state safe from the menace of drugs and illicit arms.
